Individual Therapy
Confidential individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, relationships, stress and life transitions.
Life can feel overwhelming at times.
Perhaps you are struggling in your relationship, feeling anxious or low, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or simply not like yourself. Individual therapy offers a confidential space to slow down, make sense of what is going on, and find a steadier way forward.
At The Relationship Therapy Practice, we specialise in how our connections with others shape the way we feel. Even when you come on your own, we keep your relationships, history and current circumstances in mind, so you feel understood as a whole person rather than a list of symptoms.
Who is this for?
People come to individual therapy with us for many different reasons, including:
-
Feeling anxious, on edge or overwhelmed
-
Low mood, self criticism or a sense of “not being good enough”
-
Relationship difficulties, conflict or communication problems
-
Coping with separation, divorce or co parenting challenges
-
Recovering from affairs or breaches of trust
-
Stress at work, burnout or perfectionism
-
Sexual worries, desire differences or intimacy concerns
-
Family patterns that keep repeating and are hard to change
-
Grief, loss or big life transitions
You do not have to be in crisis to seek therapy. Many clients come because they want to understand themselves better, improve their relationships and make thoughtful choices about the next stage of their lives.
How we help
Our therapists are trained in evidence based approaches including relationship and psychosexual therapy, attachment and trauma informed work. We offer:
-
A warm, non judgemental space where all parts of your story are welcome
-
Clear, collaborative goals so you know what we are working towards together
-
A focus on patterns in your thoughts, emotions, body and relationships
-
Practical tools and strategies you can take into everyday life
We move at your pace. Some clients prefer a shorter, focused piece of work around a particular issue. Others choose longer term therapy to explore deeper themes, including childhood experiences, trauma or longstanding relationship patterns.
Our Approach
Initial assessment
Your first session is an opportunity to talk through what has brought you to therapy, ask questions and get a feel for whether we are the right fit. We will explore:
-
What you are finding difficult at the moment
-
Any relevant personal, relationship and family history
-
What you would like to be different by the end of therapy
Together we will decide whether to continue and, if so, agree some initial aims.
Ongoing sessions
Sessions are usually 50 minutes once a week, online via Zoom or in some cases in person. You are welcome to bring anything that feels important that week, whether it links directly to your original reason for coming or not.
Over time, individual therapy can help you to:
-
Feel calmer and more grounded in everyday life
-
Understand why you react the way you do in relationships
-
Communicate your needs more clearly
-
Set healthier boundaries
-
Process difficult experiences and emotions safely
-
Reconnect with pleasure, meaning and confidence
FAQ
Do you offer in person or online support?
We work fully online with all our clients, using Zoom. We find no difference in the outcomes for online therapy compared to in person sessions. In fact, we find that online sessions are more accessible and can feel more manageable for clients, which can lead to fantastic results.
However we may be able to attend meetings in-person at your solicitor’s office, subject to there being a suitable room available. Travel costs will apply.
How much are your fees?
Our fees start from £75+VAT for individuals to work with one of our team of associate therapists. Individual sessions with Elinor Harvey range from £100-150+VAT depending on the focus of the work.
Can this sit alongside legal processes?
Yes. Individual therapy complements mediation and legal advice. It does not replace legal guidance.
How many sessions will we need?
Most clients work with us for between 6-15 sessions, spread weekly or fortnightly. However we work with some clients on just a one-off, single session basis, and for more complex situations, we may continue to support you for much longer. We will agree a plan with you at assessment based upon our professional experience, your situation and any key time constraints.
